Two Self-advocates with Down syndrome have been employed by Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital under Inclusion Works Project

Two Self-advocates Fahim Hasan and Md. Sihab Hossain have been appointed under internship program at Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital. Prof Dr. Sarder A. Nayeem, Chairman, Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital handed over the Letter of Appointment to the Self-advocates on the occasion.  Self-advocates were very much delighted and happy to receive the employment letter. They hoped that other Self-advocates will also get employment opportunities in near future.
A day-long workshop on “Employment Advocacy for Persons with Down syndrome and Intellectual Disabilities-Success and Challenges” was organized by Down Syndrome Society of Bangladesh at the Dhaka Safari Hotel, Banani, Dhaka on 11th January, 2022. 
Self-advocates with Down syndrome and intellectual disabilities, academia, government delegates, INGO representatives, media person, employers, representative from IDA, parents/support persons, caregivers, officials of AMDA Bangladesh and Down Syndrome Society of Bangladesh attended the workshop.
Professor Dr. Md. Golam Rabbani, Chairperson, Neuro-developmental Disability Protection Trustee Board, Ministry of Social Welfare, Government of Bangladesh graced the workshop as Chief Guest.   The workshop was chaired by Prof. Dr. Hakim Arif, Founder Chairperson, Department of Communication Disorders, University of Dhaka. Among other eminent personalities, Shafiqul Islam, Country Director, ADD International Bangladesh, Amrita Rejina Rozario, Country Director, Sightsavers, Prof. Dr. Sarder A. Nayeem, Chairman, Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital attended the workshop as Special Guests and delivered their valuable remarks and recommendations on IW Project. Sarder A. Razzak, Chairman, Down Syndrome Society of Bangladesh gave Power Point Presentation on IW project in the inauguration ceremony of the workshop.

In the second part of the workshop a panel discussion was held highlighting the challenges and success of IW Project. The panelist emphasized on making bridges between employers and the OPDs for ensuring employment opportunities for the persons with Down syndrome and Intellectual Disabilities in the country.
